Mark your Calendars, because the B’s have released their dates for upcoming games!
Today is schedule day, along with Dev Camp for most teams in the NHL, and so the B’s have announced their regular season schedule for the upcoming season in full, which happens to look a little like this!
Some notables from this schedule are that. as per usual, the B’s start their season on the road against the Florida Panthers, where they will have to sit there and watch their Stanley Cup banner go up. Gag me.
There’s also the Centennial Game: being played against the Montreal Canadiens on December 1st as a tribute to the original 1924 inaugural game, down at Boston Arena (now Matthews Arena). As for what else that entails, that is currently unknown. Given that Matthews Arena apparently isn’t long for this world and has like active structural issues, I doubt they’ll try to use it.
It’s a shame; it would be a great final send-off to the old barn if they did.
Otherwise, some other highlights are the usual suspects 4 times; Tampa, Toronto, Ottawa, and Florida. Montreal is only three times this year, though given how lopsided that rivalry has become in Boston’s favor I think we can reasonably agree we’re still in a cooling period for that rivalry. Detroit’s also a 3-timer for this upcoming year, though I think the spacing makes it interesting to see how that team evolves/mutates over the next season. The Pacific road trip is now in March as opposed to December/January, and it should be noted that there aren’t really any long homestands: the longest the Black and Gold ever stay at home a maximum of three games before at least a game somewhere else.
Also, all of their back-to-backs, of which there are four, are all pretty reasonable: They have Vancouver at home in late november, then head to Long Island straight after. An away tilt with New Jersey in January, then back home against Ottawa. A home-and-home with Columbus…for some reason, and then finally in February there’s a home game against Minny, and then a jaunt down to Manhatten to face the Rangers. All perfectly reasonable distances to travel on short notice.
Starts on the road, ends at home, and will almost certainly be pencilled in with a date with a team in Blue and White for late April/Early May. Nothin’ else like it.
