Minnesota Wild star forward Kirill Kaprizov will not make the trip to Dallas and is listed as being out day-to-day with a lower-body injury. It’s never good to see anyone out with injury, but for the Wild, losing Kaprizov will hurt.

Kirill Kaprizov Out with Lower-Body Injury
Following the holiday break, the Wild are travelling to Dallas to take on the Stars in a Central Division matchup. However, the Wild will have to do so without the services of their star forward Kirill Kaprizov. He did not make the trip and is listed as being out day-to-day with a lower-body injury. In a corresponding move, the Wild have recalled forwards Brendan Gaunce and Devin Shore from the Iowa Wild of the AHL.

What this Means for the Wild
It’s no secret that Kaprizov is a major contributor for the Wild. He leads the team in goals (23), assists (27), and points (50). The Wild as a team are 19th in the league in goals for per game with 2.94. Losing Kaprizov will not help this metric. No other player has passed the 20-goal mark on the team and only Matt Boldy and Marco Rossi have more than ten goals. In addition, for a team with the 24th ranked power play, they will definitely miss Kaprizov’s offensive contribution.
But as head coach John Hynes provided, this will be a test for the team’s depth forwards to step up. While the Dallas matchup is an important one individually, the Wild will really be hoping that this injury doesn’t keep Kaprizov off the ice for too long. After a strong start to the season the team has cooled off some. Losing Kirill Kaprizov to injury for any time will be a tough hole to fill.
