Morning Skate: Finale

It ends tonight.

Welcome to a new week, folks — the final week of the 2023-2024 NHL season.

Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final is tonight, with the Panthers set to either win their first-ever Stanley Cup or suffer the greatest collapse in NHL history.

I know which one I’m rooting for, but that’s just me.

In watching Game 6, Florida looked like they were toast. Edmonton seems to have more jump, more determination, more whatever other intangible you can use…plus more Connor McDavid.

Still, Florida only needs to get it together once and all will (mostly) be forgotten, so we’ll see!

Game 7s in the Stanley Cup Final are a lot of fun either way (as long as your team isn’t playing), and tonight’s has that extra jolt to it.

Elsewhere, Sky had you covered with the rumor of the moment, which is what appears to be an impending “Linus Ullmark to Ottawa” deal.

It seems like things are picking up steam at this point, and with the first round of the NHL Draft just days away, this seems like something that will happen by mid-week.

Of course, I’ve been wrong before, but it seems like there’s too much smoke for there to be nothing to the rumors.

Lastly, the Bruins actually did make a real move yesterday, with the team announcing that they’ve signed defenseman Ian Mitchell to a one-year, two-way contract.

Mitchell skated in a handful of games with the Bruins last year, recording two assists. He was pretty good in Providence too, with 6G-18A-24PTS totals in 42 games.

As we’ve seen in the past, a little defensive depth, both at the NHL and AHL levels, is never a bad idea.

Anyways, that’s all I have — what’s on tap for today?
