Back for another spin.
It is Wednesday, my dudes.
Wednesday, July 17, to be exact, meaning we are now past the halfway point of July. Summer is passing quickly, as it usually does.
The Bruins continue to take care of minor pieces of business, announcing Tuesday that they’ve signed forward Marc McLaughlin to a one-year, two-way deal worth $775,000 at the NHL level.
The North Billerica native went one-for-one at the NHL level this past season, appearing in one game and scoring one goal.
He’ll likely spend the majority of the season in Providence, but has proven himself a capable NHL fill-in when called upon.
Memorably, McLaughlin scored his first NHL goal in his first NHL game — better to get it out of the way, right?
Elsewhere, the leading contender for the “You Don’t Look Right in that Jersey” award, Steven Stamkos, penned a farewell to Tampa Bay in the The Players’ Tribune:

Very strange, indeed.
In other NHL news, Joe Pavelski, as expected, announced his retirement from the NHL on Tuesday.
The longtime San Jose Shark indicated he was done after the Dallas Stars season ended, but confirmed it yesterday.
If you’re looking for a decent read, NHL.com has a cool piece on Egypt Ice Hockey.
Yes, you read that correctly: Egypt Ice Hockey!
While Egypt has a young program at the men’s international level, they’re hoping to join the IIHF as associate members.
Plus, they have a pretty sweet logo:
That same article pointed out that there are actually a lot of full or associate IIHF members in the region, including Algeria, Morocco, and the United Arab Emirates, so…hockey continues to grow around the globe, which is cool to see.
Anyways, the big soccer tournaments are over, the NHL is kind of slumbering, and even baseball is taking a breather. We are in the doldrums.
What’s on tap for today?
