A new beginning for a hometown kid.
Monday is upon us, folks! A new week begins.
This week marks the last full week of July, with next week featuring a half-July/half-August split. The calendar rolls on.
There was some sad news from the Bruins world over the weekend, as longtime Bruins reporter Mike Loftus passed away at the age of just 65.
Loftus covered the Bruins for the Patriot Ledger for as long as I can remember and was a well-liked guy in Bruins media circles.
(The Ledger, for those from out of the area, was a pretty big newspaper covering the area south of Boston before it was purchased and hollowed out by a national organization.)
Condolences to Mike’s family and friends.
The Boston Globe’s Kevin Paul DuPont had a nice catch-up with now former Bruin Matt Grzelcyk, who signed with Pittsburgh after the Bruins elected to let his contract expire.
As DuPont notes, Grzelcyk was born in Boston, played his college hockey in Boston, and played his entire NHL career (to this point) in Boston.
Safe to say he’ll be in for a bit of an adjustment as his career continues in Pittsburgh.
While it’s fair to say that the Bruins moving on from Grzelcyk wasn’t exactly a shock, it’ll still be surprising to see him actually suiting up for another NHL team.
Next, I hope to be able to start posting the voting surveys for this summer’s player rankings by next week, just to get that in the works.
Lastly, the website OLBG.com published a “Best Sports Stadium Food” ranking, at it isn’t necessarily good news for Delaware North.
The Bruins were ranked 26th-best in the NHL, which…isn’t exactly stellar. I won’t pretend like I understood the exact science used to calculate these scores, but apparently Carolina’s PNC Arena has more than twice as many concession stands as TD Garden, which seems like quite a lot.
The Garden, according to these metrics, is also one of just three NHL stadiums where a hot dog costs $7 or more.
I find the food at TD Garden to be fine overall, but it’s definitely on the expensive side.
Anyone else remember the days of the “All You Can Eat” balcony sections? We didn’t know how good we had it.
Anyways, what’s on tap for today?
