And waiting some more.
Welcome to a new week, folks!
The Stanley Cup Final is over, the NHL Draft has passed, and the Free Agent Frenzy is in the rearview mirror as well.
Now, we’re just left with…regular ol’ offseason.
The Bruins, of course, still have a very big item on their to-do list, as goalie of the present and future Jeremy Swayman needs a new contract.
With Linus Ullmark dealt to Ottawa, Swayman’s new deal is little more than a formality; however, that hasn’t stopped some folks from starting to get a little nervous — or, for the more high-strung out there, panicking.
The lack of deal was in the news again over the weekend, as Swayman wasn’t among the RFAs filing for arbitration — and the Bruins didn’t file either.
This means very little, other than that the Bruins and Swayman both agree that neither party wants another go through what was an uncomfortable process last time around.
The fine print on the “no arbitration” means Swayman is eligible to sign an offer sheet, which absolutely never happens, unless you’re Brian Burke and there are fights in barns and whatever else.
For the most part, the “where’s the new contract” chatter is just a byproduct of there being nothing else to talk about.
As Steve Conroy of the Herald noted on Twitter, both sides declining to seek the arbitration route is likely an indicator of both wanting to continue to negotiate in good faith.
Swayman will get his money. The Bruins will get their #1 goalie. The world will keep spinning.
Until then, it might be a good idea to pick some other sports topic to occupy your mind.
The Red Sox aren’t nearly as bad as people expected, there are some great international soccer matches on the books, etc.
Or you can continue to panic, up to you — I’m not your boss.
Anyways, what’s on tap for today?
