Ups and downs, as they say.
Welcome to a new week, folks!
After a disappointing result in Utah on Saturday night, the Bruins won’t play again until tomorrow night in Nashville.
For reasons that aren’t entirely clear to me, that game is slated to start at 8:45 PM, which is about as random of a time as you can get — though there’s probably a reason for it.
As on Sunday night, Nashville is one of two winless teams in the NHL: they’ve started the year with five straight regulation losses.
(The San Jose Sharks, who are the other winless team, have at least taken two games beyond regulation before eventually losing, so they have some consolation points.)
The Predators have allowed 23 goals in those five games, so…yeah. Tough sledding in Nashville to start the year.
The Bruins aren’t exactly firing on all cylinders either, letting a late lead slip away and turn into a less in Salt Lake City.
Still, 3-2-1 with all the new faces in the mix (plus the Swayman drama) probably isn’t a terrible place to be at the moment.
Elsewhere, former Bruin Jakub Zboril’s NHL days appear to be over, as the defenseman signed a five-year deal with Dynamo Pardubice of the Czech league.
Zboril had a PTO with the New Jersey Devils this year, but didn’t end up getting a deal out of it.
Former Bruin David Krejci spent part of the lockout-shortened 2013 season playing for Pardubice too, if you want a random piece of trivia.
Lastly, it appears the NHL Awards may be a thing of the past, at least in their current format.
From Sportsnet:
“What the league is looking at in combination with the Players’ Association, is what else can they do that’s interesting, what else can they do that will make the awards special,” Friedman said. “A couple of things have been thrown out. One of the ideas is doing it the way the NBA does it. The NBA, during the first week of the playoffs, will honour the winners at their home arenas.”
Not airing that tremendously awkward Vegas show would be a win for everyone, I think.
What else is on tap for today?
