It’s here.
Welcome to Friday, folks! The weekend beckons.
I chose the picture accompanying this article because it was as far back as I could go in Getty Images.
The caption was “Defense Men of the Boston Bruins.”
We should go back to the two-word format of “Defense Men,” as it sounds much more imposing.
Anyways, on to more pressing matters: nothing!
There’s not much happening with the B’s, aside from David Pastrnak voicing his support for a certain German forward joining the Bruins.
(If you don’t want to click the link, just assume I’m referring to former San Jose Sharks legend Marcel Goc.)
There have been some goofy rumors from clickbait Facebook pages about “David Pastrnak could miss the entire 2024-2025 season,” but they are completely bogus, so tell your oversharing Facebook uncle.
The Panthers are one win away from another Stanley Cup Final, as they scored three goals in a row to overcome an early deficit and win Game 5 in New York.
Game 5 between the Oilers and Stars will be tonight, in what has been a thoroughly entertaining 2-2 series thus far.
Other than that, we’re all hanging out. Maybe a trade rumor soon (do they ever really stop?), but nothing too serious has cropped up yet.
The league did announce that the Stanley Cup Final will begin on June 8, with the “where” still to-be-determined.
There are two two-days-off stretches built into the seven-game schedule, which is interesting — though it also makes sense, as there’s the potential for some serious travel: Miami to Edmonton is more than 2,500 miles by air.
Lastly, NHL Utah has apparently narrowed its name list down to four finalists, with “Mammoth” and “Yeti” among them.
Reportedly they’re just going to be “NHL Utah” for their first season, which seems kind of silly — I get that it’s a rush to build an entire brand, but it seems like wasted momentum when you’re trying to get a franchise off the ground.
But what do I know? Not much about launching a hockey team, that’s for sure.
What’s on tap for today/the weekend?
