Each day, Last Word on Hockey takes a look at the games that are happening and gives our predictions for each one, breaking down head-to-head matchups and other factors that may play in. We also have a featured game of the day, which is considered must-watch TV. Today’s featured game is the Vegas Golden Knights vs Edmonton Oilers. NHL Predictions
Philadelphia Flyers vs Minnesota Wild
Head-to-Head: Flyers 1-0 Wild
Time: 2 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST)
TV: NBC Sports Philadelphia; Fan Duel Sports Wisconsin; Fan Duel Sports North; ESPN+
We open NHL predictions with the Philadelphia Flyers visiting the Minnesota Wild. Samuel Ersson is the confirmed starter for the Flyers, who have won two consecutive games. Philadelphia is also 6-2-2 in the last 10 games and is fourth in the Metropolitan Division. Scott Laughton is coming off a four-goal game against the Detroit Red Wings last time out.
Marc-Andre Fleury is the confirmed starter for the Wild, who are 6-3-1 in the last 10 games. Kirill Kaprizov is off to a great start this season with 18 goals with 25 assists for the Wild. Matthew Boldy has been solid as of late with one goal and seven assists over the past 10 games.
The first meeting was a high-scoring one, but the Wild get the season-split.
Prediction: Wild win 4-2.
Vegas Golden Knights vs Edmonton Oilers
Head-to-Head: Golden Knights 2-0 Oilers
Time: 4 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST)
TV: Scripps Vegas; Sportsnet; ESPN+
Our featured game of NHL predictions has the Golden Knights taking on the Oilers. Adin Hill is the expected starter for the Knights, who have four straight victories. Vegas is also 8-1-1 in the last 10 and has beaten Edmonton twice already. Ivan Barbashev has supplied six goals and six assists over the last 10 games.
Stuart Skinner is the likely starter in the crease for the Oilers, who have also taken the last four games. Edmonton is 8-2 in the last 10 and is slowly overcoming a bad start to the season. Leon Draisaitl is leading the way with 21 goals and 21 assists for the Oilers.
Vegas has been able to stymie the Edmonton offence so far this season. However, the Oilers scratch out the win.
Prediction: Oilers win 3-2.
Toronto Maple Leafs vs Detroit Red Wings
Head-to-Head: Maple Leafs 1-0 Red Wings
Time: 7 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (EST)
TV: Sportsnet; NHL Network; Fan Duel Sports Detroit; CBC
Our final game of NHL predictions has the Toronto Maple Leafs renewing their rivalry with the Red Wings. Joseph Woll is the expected starter for Toronto, but always check social media before locking in a daily fantasy starter. Mitch Marner has posted 10 goals and 28 assists for the Maple Leafs. William Nylander has continued his great start with scored six goals with three assists over the last 10 games.
Ville Husso is the confirmed starter for a Detroit team that’s 3-5-2 in the last 10 games. Husso has yet to get a win in goal as he’s got an 0-4-2 record. Lucas Raymond has tallied 11 goals with 19 assists for the Red Wings. Alex DeBrincat has been a bright spot as of late with four goals and two assists over the past 10 games.
Toronto may have concerns with Anthony Stolarz being out, but should get the win.
Prediction: Maple Leafs win 5-2.
Prop Bets of the Night
We wrap up NHL predictions with some prop bets. We’ll go to our featured game for this one. On the Vegas side, Mark Stone is worth a shout as the first or last goalscorer at +1600 on Bet365. For Edmonton, Connor McDavid is worth a play at +135 for an anytime goalscorer also at Bet365.
