Game notes
- The Bruins will take their malaise to the midwest to play the Blues, which is fitting, as watching this team has made me feel blue for most of the season. Thank you, goodnight everybody!
- In a weird scheduling quirk, these two teams will play twice in less than a week, with St. Louis visiting TD Garden on Saturday afternoon.
- The Blues, like the Bruins, have been up and down lately. They’ve lost two games in a row, but won two in a row before that. However, before THAT, they lost three in a row, so…yeah, ups and downs.
- St. Louis is coming off of a horrendous loss on Saturday, when they got pummeled by the Washington Capitals, 8-1 — on home ice, no less. The Blues trailed 3-1 in that game after two periods, then proceeded to allow five unanswered goals in the third. Blues reported Jeremy Rutherford called that third period the worst effort he’s seen in two decades of covering the team.
- Jordan Binnington is still hanging around, and it still makes me mad when I remember that the Bruins lost a Stanley Cup Final to that guy.
- Blues center Jordan Kyrou has been on a nice run of late, notching three goals in his last five games.
- I was looking at some of the Blues’ team stats and thought “this team isn’t very good.” That became a bit awkward when I realized how similar their team stats are to the Bruins: power play (29th in the league for the B’s, 32nd for the Blues), penalty kill (24th, 23rd), GF/G (26th, 24th), and GA/G (22nd, 27th). Great vibes all around, folks.
- In case you missed it yesterday, Matthew Poitras was sent to Providence on Monday.
See ya tonight!
