Game notes
- The Boston Bruins are back in town for Game 3 of their second round series against the Florida Panthers in what’s sure to be a physical game with how the last ended.
- There were 12 game misconducts in the third period, the Tkachuk-Pastrnak fight, and three other penalties. It will be interesting to see if anyone drops the gloves and gets that out of the way when the puck drops.
- The first two games have basically been the same game, just a different outcome to a T for each team. Tonight’s game is likely the true test of the series to see if the Bruins can produce goals like in Game 1 or if turnovers will plague them and if they can counter Florida’s forecheck.
- The Bruins showed fatigue in Game 2 and didn’t play their best defensively.
- “The last 30 minutes, I felt fatigue factored in,” Montgomery said to media yesterday about Game 2. He was asked if the team was staying at a hotel tonight and he said it was healthy for them all to see their families being away for a few days.
- Jim Montgomery said his decision to pull Jeremy Swayman wasn’t related to his play, but rather the team’s play in front of him. Swayman will likely get the start again tonight as he’s been excellent this postseason, even though it’s still undetermined if he’s officially the starter.
- Neither team has really had an advantage on the power play when it comes to the man advantage. Out of 14 combined power plays so far this series, there’s only been one power-play goal and that goes to Florida. But Florida did seem to gain momentum on 5v5 following them.
- With only one goal in Game 2 and goals coming from secondary scoring, defenders and an empty-net in Game 1, the Bruins still need a boost from their top forwards.
- Updates: The Bruins sent Patrick Brown back down to Providence yesterday. Jesper Boqvist returned for Game 2, with 13:13 TOI.
- Injury updates: Montgomery told media yesterday that Andrew Peeke is getting “closer” and they’ll know more this morning. Heinen is still “day-to-day,” he added.
- See ya tonight!
