Game notes
- The Boston Bruins will look to stay on track as they face the Detroit Red Wings tonight at the TD Garden.
- The Bruins last saw the Red Wings on Nov. 23. The B’s beat them 2-1 when they broke a 1-1 tie in the third period. Justin Brazeau scored on the power play while Brad Marchand got the game-winner. Raymond scored a late, second-period goal for Detroit.
- As has been the theme, the Bruins power play needs a boost, some way, some how. Interim head coach Joe Sacco said after yesterday’s practice they decided to go with their “top guys” on the first unit on Sunday and realized it still wasn’t working. “We have to continue to work on it,” Sacco said. “It’s a part of our game that we are struggling with.”
- And just in case you’re keeping track, the Bruins’ power play moved back in last as it came up short again on Sunday against the Habs. So it’s 11.7% effective now.
- Cole Koepke’s two-point game on Sunday broke a nine=game pointless streak for the forward. His speed is something the Bruins are looking for to continue to help them win games. “It’s something he brings to our team that when he’s skating, the way he can, he’s effective on the forecheck,” Sacco said after yesterday’s skate.
- Since they last saw the B’s, the Red Wings are 2-1-1. They last played on Sunday, falling to the Vancouver Canucks, 5-4, in overtime.
- For Detroit, Raymond has seven points in the his last five games with four goals and three assists.
- Detroit placed goalie Alex Lyon on injured reserve and recalled Sebastian Cossa under emergency conditions, the team announced yesterday. It’s been an interesting few days for the team as Talbot had been injured in the Dec. 1 game. The Red Wings called up goalie Ville Husso last week, so Cossa will back up Husso tonight.
- This is also a reminder that this game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and Hulu.
- See ya tonight!
