Game notes
- The Boston Bruins are back home after three road games to see the New York Islanders tonight at the TD Garden.
- Tonight’s the tail-end of back-to-back games for the Bruins as they closed out the road trip with a 6-4 loss in Toronto after defensive breakdowns and a back-and-forth third period last night. In all three road losses, the Bruins were down after the first period. David Pastrnak scored twice in the loss.
- This is the second time the Bruins will see the Islanders this season. The Bruins last saw the Islanders on Nov. 27 — a 6-3 win. In the game, Pavel Zacha broke a 3-3 tie in the third period by scoring two consecutive goals before Nikita Zadorov potted an empty-netter. Brad Marchand had also scored twice in the win while Morgan Geekie added the other tally. It was also a two-goal night for Brock Nelson on the Islanders’ side.
- Both the Islanders and the Bruins have the worst and second-worst power plays in the NHL right now — the Isles at 11% and Bruins at 12.9%. The B’s power play went 0 for 2 last night and lost one advantage drawing a penalty during it…
- The Islanders also have the honor of last in the league for PK at 63.5%.
- Interim head coach Joe Sacco played around with the top six forwards last night and then reverting back to what we’ve seen trying to get some production. We’ll have to wait to see if he tries the Brad Marchand – Elias Lindholm – David Pastrnak line again, or not.
- For the Islanders, Isaiah George is out with an upper-body injury and Dennis Cholowski is back in the lineup. Islanders’ head coach Patrick Roy has also shuffled around his line trying to get some offense going. Per the team’s website, Roy rolled a line of Nelson, Mathew Barzal and Lee during yesterday’s practice.
- The Islanders come to Boston on a three-game losing streak only scoring four goals in that time.
- As Jeremy Swayman started last night, I’d assume Joonas Korpisalo gets the nod tonight.
- See ya tonight!
