Game notes
- The Boston Bruins are set for a matinee matchup against the San Jose Sharks as the two teams meet for the first time this season. The game kicks off a busy four games in six days week for the Bruins.
- The Bruins return to the TD Garden after falling to the Ottawa Senators, 6-5, in a shootout. The Sharks come to Boston on a two-game losing streak. On the other side, the Sharks are 17 points out of a WC slot.
- The B’s dropped Saturday’s game after the Senators came back from a two-goal deficit in the third period to force overtime and eventually win in a shootout. It marked the three straight game in which the Bruins have allowed more than 40 shots on net from their opponents.
- The loss slid the Bruins out of the Wild Card and put the Senators in the first WC position.
- After yesterday’s practice, Interim head coach Joe Sacco said Charlie McAvoy will remain out of the lineup this afternoon and then they will reevaluate him. During practice, Hampus Lindholm skated in a non-contact jersey, according to The Athletic’s Fluto Shinzawa who reported him on a fourth defensive pairing.
- Pavel Zacha also had a maintenance day yesterday so lines were a little shuffled for the weekend practice. “He should be OK,” Sacco said for today’s game.
- Zacha and Morgan Geekie both hit 11 goals for the season in Saturday’s loss — as two of six Bruins who have scored 10 or more so far this season. After that, Elias Lindholm and Trent Frederic are at seven.
- The Sharks have one of the lowest goals for in a game and have allowed the second most goals against in the league. For the Sharks, Celebrini has four assists in five games. Tyler Toffoli, who has four points in his last five games played, is expected to be sidelined due to an injury.
- For the Bruins, David Pastrnak is on a three-game point streak registering three points in each game. Cole Koepke is still out with an upper-body injury.
