When the Bruins fell behind 1-0 less than 90 seconds into the game, you could be forgiven for thinking it was going to be one of those nights.
After all, the B’s were playing their second game in as many nights, and goals haven’t exactly been plentiful thus far.
Instead, the Bruins would score the game’s next three goals, jumping out to a 3-1 lead before eventually skating out of Chicago with a 4-2 win.
Brad Marchand and Morgan Geekie each scored twice for the B’s, while Justin Brazeau, David Pastrnak, Mason Lohrei, and Jordan Oesterle each had two assists.
Jeremy Swayman made 20 saves in the win.
Alex Vlasic got Chicago on the board early in the first, with Swayman vacationing somewhere out near the face-off dot. 1-0 Blackhawks.
Geekie would tie the game around ten minutes later, following his own shot from the high slot to make it a 1-1 game.
Marchand would make his presence known in the second, scoring off of a great Pastrnak feed three minutes in to make it 2-1 Bruins.
Marchand would add another two minutes later, making it 3-1 Bruins.
Jason Dickinson cut it to 3-2 Bruins with 90 seconds left in the period, beating Swayman through traffic.
Geekie would get his second five minutes into the third, scoring on a breakaway after a great pass from Brazeau. 4-2 Bruins.
That was it! 4-2 Bruins final.
Game notes
- Joe Sacco elected to load up a mega line with Pastrnak, Marchand, and Elias Lindholm skating together for large stretches of this game. It worked. Maybe try that again, Joe.
- All six goals were scored at even strength, with the Bruins going 0-for-5 on the power play. One of those power plays was in garbage time, but…still. Not great!
- Nick Foligno emerged from the game as the “Most Successful Former Bruin,” as he recorded an assist on Vlasic’s goal. Ryan Donato, Craig Smith, Taylor Hall, Pat Maroon, and Tyler Bertuzzi failed to get on the scoresheet.
- The win was the Bruins’ third in a row and fourth in their last five. While they’ve played more games than the teams around them, the B’s are somehow only three points out of first in the division. It’s been a weird season.
The Bruins will enjoy a full off day Thursday before returning to the ice on Friday. Their next game will be at home against Philly on Saturday afternoon.
