Max Jones will also be going to Edmonton.
EDIT: As it turns out, this trade was actually multiple trades in one…go figure. In any case, the final details remain the same as below, there were just more moving parts.
The #bruins are also retaining 50% on Trent Frederic so the #oilers get him on a pro-rated $575,000 cap hit for the remainder of the season.

The first trade deadline domino has fallen for the Bruins, as forwards Trent Frederic and Max Jones have been dealt to the Edmonton Oilers.
The team announced the deal earlier this afternoon, with the Bruins getting defenseman Max Wanner, a 2025 second-round pick, and a 2026 fourth-round pick in return.
The ‘25 second-rounder will be the St. Louis Blues’ pick, which belongs to Edmonton as a result of the Blues signing Philip Broberg to an offer sheet last summer.
As a result, the second-rounder projects to be an early pick, with St. Louis currently 22nd in the league standings.
The Bruins will retain 50% of Frederic’s salary for the remainder of this season; he’ll be a free agent at season’s end.
Wanner, a 21-year-old defenseman, has spent most of this season in the AHL with Bakersfield.
In 22 games, he has one goal and one assist. Wanner is a right-shot defenseman, measuring at 6’ 3” and 184 pounds.
He was originally selected by Edmonton in the seventh round in 2021.
Frederic has had a disappointing season so far, but was (at times) very much a fan favorite for his willingness to be gritty and drop the gloves.
He mainly scored cleanup goals this season, so his offense has taken a general dip.
Max Jones has spent most of the season in the AHL…not much else to say there.
As far as Wanner goes, he’ll report to Providence. Maybe he’s the Ian Mitchell replacement as the 7th defenseman for now? I guess we’ll see.
How do you grade this trade?
