The NHL is launching an unprecedented six-episode docuseries, “Faceoff: Inside the NHL,” premiering on Prime Video on Oct. 4 with Episode 1, “Best of Rivals,” featuring Boston Bruins star David Pastrnak and Toronto Maple Leafs forward William Nylander.
The series will feature insight from Pastrnak and Bruins restricted free agent goalie Jeremy Swayman, Nylander, Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog, Edmonton Oilers stars Connor McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and Zach Hyman, Florida Panthers forward and Stanley Cup champion Matthew Tkachuk and many more. Camera crews were embedded with each player and their families and friends as their teams battled through the postseason.
One key moment in the trailer came from the opening-round series between the Maple Leafs and Bruins. Nylander was seen on camera telling a teammate, assumed to be Mitch Marner, to “Stop (expletive) crying, bro.” The audio of that moment can be heard in the trailer. Later in the trailer, Nylander is seen having dinner with Pastrnak proving hockey players can co-exist and build friendships off the ice.
“If we don’t get the Cup, it doesn’t matter who moves on from the first round,” Pastrnak says in the clip.
Each episode will feature two or three players with McDavid and Tkachuk each appearing in two episodes.
Here is the list of each episode:
EPISODE 1: “Best of Rivals” featuring Bruins’ David Pastrnak and Maple Leafs’ Willaim Nylander
EPISODE 2: “As Tough As It Gets” featuring Vegas Golden Knights’ Jack Eichel and Nashville Predators’ Filip Forsberg
EPISODE 3: “Learning to Win” featuring Bruins’ Jeremy Swayman and Panthers’ Matthew Tkachuk
EPISODE 4: “The Captains” featuring Vancouver Canucks’ Quinn Hughes, Colorado Avalanche’s Gabriel Landeskog and New York Rangers’ Jacob Trouba
EPISODE 5: “Cup or Bust Part I” featuring Edmonton Oilers’ Leon Draisaitl, Connor McDavid and Zach Hyman
EPISODE 6: “Cup or Bust Part II” featuring Oilers captain Connor McDavid and Panthers star Matthew Tkachuk
The Bruins kick off the 2024-25 season on the road against the reigning Stanley Cup champion Panthers on Oct. 8. Boston returns home to host the Montreal Canadiens on Oct. 10 at TD Garden.
