Well things got weird. One game had the expected result even if it didn’t play out the way we all thought. The other was pure chaos.
Semifinal 1- Boston University 3 – Boston College 3 OT BU 1-0 SOW)
Going in Boston College was the clear favorite. They were the highest ranked team in this tournament and their fans expected hardware, plus they had already beaten BU once this season. Tara Watchorn and her Terriers had other plans.
The first period was electric with Boston University scoring early on a very soft goal. BC would answer only a minute later with a great shot with open ice. They would trade goals again in the first with BU once again taking a short lived lead.
The second was a scoreless affair with both teams having great opportunities.
The final frame in regulation was started off with a BU goal that would stick until the awning moments as BC was able to tie it up immediately after pulling their goalie forcing overtime.
The extra frame was eventful though no one was able to bury a shot forcing a shootout. In the shootout only one goal was scored as both goalies were keeping their teams in contention. However BU’s Lilli Welke found a way to get the Terriers to the trophy game.
Semifinal 2- Northeastern 1 – Harvard 0
AS expected Northeastern will advance to defend their Beanpot crown. The game if you look at all the stats except the score are heavily NU favored. In fact the Huskies allowed only a total of 9 shots, only one of which came in the third period, but were able to put double digits on the Harvard goalie every period. The play was as tilted as those marks indicate but Alex Pellicci gave the Crimson a chance the whole time.
The loan goal of this affair came in the 12th minute on the power play as former Crimson Taze Thompson was able to redirect a shot in on Pellicci giving NU a lead they would not surrender.
The losers will meet in the consolation game next Tuesday while the winners will look to claim the 45th Women’s Beanpot on the TD Garden ice.
