Boston falters in the third to send the game to OT and cause serious harm to playoff hopes with the loss.

Boston had two leads in this game at 1-0 and at 2-1. They were sloppy with the puck repeatedly and it finally caught them in the third period to send the game to OT and lose them a point. The OT saw some high danger on both sides but Boston was lucky to have Frankel backing them up as Ottawa had a stretch of close in shots that had no business being saved. Once again in the shootout both goalies were phenomenal but Frankel was beaten twice and Boston could not find the back of the net a second time.

Game Notes

  • Magic Number: 12 Elimination Number: 3 Boston had their chances to keep their dreams reasonable but it is quickly becoming a longshot.
  • New York has been eliminated and will start earning points towards the top overall pick with their remaining three games. Ottawa can eliminate Boston on Saturday, but Boston can only earn points towards the first pick in their finale against Montreal in Lowell if they are eliminated on Saturday. If they are not eliminated on Saturday or Tuesday they will have no opportunities to earn points towards the pick.
  • Ottawa has 3 games remaining while Boston only has 2. Boston has next to no wiggle room left with an elimination number of 3. With New York starting to earn points towards the first pick and three games to work with it is looking dire for Boston.
