The Boston Celtics won the 2024 NBA Finals on a Monday, and by Thursday, Boston big man Al Horford was back to work. The veteran stopped by a Raising Cane’s restaurant in Boston’s Back Bay to talk to the media, sign some autographs, and even get behind the counter to help take customers’ orders.
Fans showed up by the hundreds, braving a brutal heat wave for a chance to meet Horford. The former Florida Gator has been in the NBA for 17 seasons, including six with Boston. In that time, he’s made a strong connection with the city thanks to his dedication and leadership. Earlier this week, he helped lead the Celtics to a coveted 18th banner and a first title since 2008. Horford, who turned 38 this June, was the backbone of the team’s defense and a critical leader on and off the court. The fanfare on Thursday was a recognition of that milestone.
In winning a title, Horford became the first ever player from the Dominican Republic to win an NBA championship. He spoke about what that meant with reporters before the event began.
