Baylor Scheierman is thriving in his Celtics minutes.

Baylor Scheierman was drafted 30th overall by the Boston Celtics in the 2024 NBA Draft. The rookie wing started the season in the G League with the Maine Celtics. After thriving in the G League, Scheierman was recalled to Boston, where he has recently put together an impressive stretch of games. Let’s dive into Scheierman’s recent play and what it means for the Celtics.

Baylor Scheierman is Finding His Groove

Scheierman dominated the G League averaging 19.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 4.3 assists while shooting 37.9 percent from three. As a shooter, playmaker, off-ball mover, and rebounder he has an impressive all-around skill set. Additionally, at 6-foot-6 he has good positional size.

The Creighton product got off to a slower start in the NBA but has put together a string of stellar games in March. Notably, Scheierman poured in 15 points, three rebounds, and three assists in a win over the Philadelphia 76ers he followed that up with a 20-point outing in a win against the Brooklyn Nets, where he hit six three-pointers. In the second half, Scheierman had five threes, while the Nets as a team had six.

Scheierman’s shooting ability was his main selling point as a prospect with more NBA reps, the lefty wing is showing that he’s an elite shooter. In March, Scheierman is shooting an absurd 58.8 percent from three on 4.3 attempts. He is comfortable shooting off the dribble and spotting up. Scheierman’s elite and versatile shooting, paired with his well-rounded skill set, make him an ideal fit in the Celtics’ system.

In both of Scheierman’s games, the Celtics were missing key starters, highlighting the Boston’s next-man-up mentality. With the season winding down, Scheierman will likely get more opportunities and, in turn, could have some more big games. While Scheierman isn’t a consistent part of the Celtics’ rotation, he can provide quality spot minutes and is an excellent depth piece who can step up when called upon. As Scheierman continues to develop, he could be poised for a breakout year in his second season and will likely become a mainstay in the Celtics’ rotation.

Mazzulla and White Praise Scheierman

After the Nets game, Joe Mazzulla spoke highly of Scheierman’s toughness and basketball IQ. Mazzulla also praised Schereiman’s development and confidence.

Toughness, IQ, and confidence all stand out in Scheierman’s game. In terms of toughness, he dives on the floor for loose balls, grabs rebounds, and brings a ton of energy off the bench. Scheierman’s ability to make the right reads as a passer, set screens, and move off the ball is a testament to his basketball IQ. As a shooter, Scheierman takes and makes difficult looks highlighting his confidence against the Nets he hit a third-quarter buzzer-beater shot from the hash mark and a no-dip three in the corner. Derrick White said that Scheierman changed the game for the Celtics.

White is spot on, Scheierman’s second three put the Celtics up by one heading into the fourth, Boston would ultimately win the game 104-96 after Scheierman netted four threes in the fourth quarter. Scheierman certainly gave the Celtics an energy and scoring boost against the Nets.
