Basketball fans thought they were seeing things when the late Bill Russell’s “X” account tweeted out a message in support of his Boston Celtics ahead of Game 2 of the NBA Finals on Sunday night.
Right around tip-off, the Hall of Famer’s @RealBillRussell handle cheered: “LET GO CELTICS!!” in all-caps — which drew a ton of questions from his remaining 183.8K followers.
“Wait a minute….” a user commented.
“Uh sir aren’t you supposed to be with God rn?” another asked.
“Bill Russell rising from the dead with banner 18 on the line,” a fan replied.
“Bill tweeting from the grave,” another person laughed.
Russell passed away in July of 2022 after a long and accomplished life both on and off the court. Shortly after the message went viral, his wife, Jeannine, shared that she was the one behind the post.
“To everyone who has reached out to this post. This is Bill’s wife. Please stay tuned for some exciting announcements on Building my husband’s legacy, and other amazing projects. Another great win tonight for the @celtics Brown or Holiday #BillRussellMVPFinalsAward.”

Russell’s Celtics are now just two wins away from capturing their first NBA championship since 2007-08.
The five-time MVP famously won 11 championships with the organization over the course of his dominating 13-year career.
