Boston Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis was unable to finish Game 2 of the NBA Finals due to a leg injury. Moments ago, the team provided an update on his health.
“Celtics Center Kristaps Porzingis suffered a torn medial retinaculum allowing dislocation of the posterior tibialis tendon in his left leg at 3:27 of the third quarter of Game 2,” the statement read. “The injury is unrelated to Porzingis’ prior right calf injury.”
After the Celtics won Game 2 on Sunday night, Porzingis joked about his status for the rest of the series, telling reporters, “I’ll die out there if we need.”
Porzingis eventually said he’ll do everything he can to be ready for the following game.
“I feel good,” Porzingis said, via ESPN. “Obviously something happened a little bit, but I have a couple days [to get ready] again, and believe me, we’ll do everything we can to be back and moving.”
Porzingis is currently listed as day-to-day. That means there’s a chance he could suit up for Game 3 in Dallas.
Although the sample size is limited, Porzingis is averaging 16 points per game in the NBA Finals.
Tipoff for Game 3 of the Finals is set for 8:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday.
