On Monday, former NBA first-round pick Eric Montross passed away after a battle with cancer. He was 52 years old.
The Montross family issued a heartfelt statement to North Carolina regarding Eric’s death.
“His family is grateful for the tremendous support and the truly overwhelming love expressed by so many people as he battled with his signature determination and grace,” his family said. “To know Eric was to be his friend, and the family knows that the ripples from the generous, thoughtful way that he lived his life will continue in the lives of the many people he touched with his deep and sincere kindness.”
Montross, a former NCAA champion and All-American for the Tar Heels, was selected by the Boston Celtics with the ninth overall pick in the 1994 NBA Draft.
As you’d expect, the Celtics are mourning the loss of Montross this week.
“RIP Eric Montross,” the Celtics said in a brief statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Montross family.”
