After they had their posteriors handed to them by the Boston Celtics in historic fashion at TD Garden this past Sunday afternoon, veteran Golden State Warriors big man Draymond Green admitted that the Warriors settled on a strategy to target star Celtics forward Jaylen Brown.
The plan was to let the worst 3-point shooter of Boston’s starting unit stay open, even sagging off the Georgia native in the hopes that it would mess with his head if he missed a few treys early in the game. Spoiler alert: this approach went about as badly as any strategy has for a team in the NBA, with Boston up by a historic margin at halftime thanks to a barrage of 3s from Brown in the game’s forst quarter.
Brown said it was disrespectful postgame, but also encouraged other teams to follow suit and try the approach with him for themselves.
That really hit the funny bone of the hosts of the CLNS Media “How Bout Them Celtics!” and “Talkin’ Cs” podcasts after the game. Check out the clip above to hear their thoughts on this embarrassing approach to guarding Brown.
