The Boston Celtics are one step closer to raising a coveted 18th banner after defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers 113-98 in Game 5 of the conference semifinals. With the win Boston advances to the East Finals for the 23rd time in franchise history and the sixth time in eight seasons.
The Celtics were a little flat to open the game, and the short-handed Cavaliers looked as if they might extend the series as a result. That was before Al Horford stepped in to stabilize things for Boston. The veteran big man made several massive defensive plays that jolted the guys in green into life. Jayson Tatum was also instrumental in the win, and the All-NBA forward led the way with 25 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists, and 4 steals. Despite a plucky effort from Cleveland right until the final horn, the Celtics produced a convincing win.
Let’s jump in and recap Boston’s 113-98 win in Game 5 over the Cavaliers Wednesday night at TD Garden.
