Boston Celtics fans are getting crushed on social media this Friday. Following the team’s victory over the Dallas Mavericks, a certain portion of the fan base mocked Kyrie Irving outside of TD Garden.
A video of fans stomping on a Kyrie Irving blowup doll while chanting “[Expletive] Kyrie” surfaced on X.
Not only was the chant pretty vulgar, it sounds like a racial slur was thrown around in that video. There’s obviously no place in this world for that type of behavior.
Irving has not commented on the video. His focus is probably on Game 2.
That being said, Irving commented on Boston’s crowd during his postgame press conference on Thursday night.
“Being in this environment, I’m used to it at this point. Early in my career, there was a different relationship that I had with Boston,” Irving said. “Just being able to come here and be settled with a veteran group. Now I’m here as the veteran. Over the past few years, just experiencing the playoffs here, even the regular season, it’s been the same thing. I thought it was gonna be a little louder in here.”
Irving finished Game 1 with just 12 points on 6-of-19 shooting from the field. He’ll need to be better in order for the Mavericks to even up the series.
Game 2 of the NBA Finals will take place on Sunday.
