After Game 2 of the NBA Finals, Boston Celtics legend Bob Cousy revealed his dying wish. Unsurprisingly, it has to do with his former team.
Cousy revealed that he’d like to see the Celtics win their 18th championship. He’s watching the series from his home in Worcester.
“I’m 95 [expletive] years old with one foot in the grave and I can barely move,” Cousy said, via The Boston Globe. “I know I’m in overtime. So everything in your life becomes more meaningful. And one of the last things I want to be able to see is for the Celtics to hang up banner No. 18.”
An 18th title would be quite significant for the Celtics since it would break a tie with the Los Angeles Lakers for most championships in NBA history.
“I will take great pride in seeing this,” Cousy added. “This puts us back ahead of the Lakers. To have been a part of that is as good a legacy as I could hope for.”
Cousy certainly played an integral role for the Celtics, winning six NBA titles from 1957-1963.
Luckily for Cousy, the Celtics are halfway home. They won the first two games of the series at home thanks to steady performances from Jaylen Brown, Jrue Holiday and Jayson Tatum.
Game 3 of the NBA Finals is set for tonight. We’ll see if the Celtics can take a commanding 3-0 series lead.
