The Boston Celtics suspended Ime Udoka effective immediately for the entire 2022-23 season for violating team policies in an announcement on Thursday night.
The team will make a decision on Udoka’s future at a later date.
It was reported on late Wednesday that Udoka had an intimate and consensual relationship with a female on the team staff.
“I want to apologize to our players, fans, the entire Celtics organization, and my family for letting them down. I am sorry for putting the team in this difficult situation, and I accept the team’s decision. Out of respect for everyone involved, I will have no further comment,” Udoka told Malika Andrews of ESPN.
Assistant Joe Mazzulla will replace Udoka on an interim basis.
