The NBA’s 2024 free agency period is still technically ongoing, but for all intents and purposes, the money and the roster spots have dried up for nearly every team in the league. And while there are a few free agents of note without homes for the coming season, the action has mostly ground to a halt around the Association as a result.
But Boston Celtics point guard Derrick White has had himself a very solid season, extending with the team he won a title with in 2024 on a team-friendly deal that ought to see him in green and white for some time. For that reason, he was named a ‘winner’ for the Celtics’ summer free agency period by Bleacher Report league analyst Zach Buckley. “White is the kind of player who can be tough to properly value,” he writes. “He isn’t a star, but he is someone who can star in a supporting role.”
“It takes the right situation to fully appreciate what he brings, but he clearly found that in Boston.”

“This situation is perfect for White,” adds Buckley. “He never has to shoulder too much of the offensive burden, but this club will let him cook when he has it rolling.”
“He is high enough on the team hierarchy to be recognized for his two-way work, but he isn’t so high that statistical dominance is demanded of him on a nightly basis.”
