Former Boston Celtics backup big man Grant Williams has been known to jaw a lot, often irking his teammates in the process. And he may have jawed his way to a trade to his hometown Charlotte Hornets after talking a boatload of smack to former Dallas Mavericks teammate Luka Doncic.
“One day in practice, a player on our team, I won’t call his name out — but it’s Grant Williams,” joked Mavericks assistant general manager (and fellow Celtics alum) Michael Finley in a recent interview with local sports radio’s 105.3 The Fan via MassLive’s Brian Robb. “He decided he wanted to get under Luka’s skin.” “He felt Luka didn’t come that day ready to practice,” explained Finley.

“To make a long story short, they had a scrimmage going, and he was talking trash to Luka up and down the court,” said the Mavs exec. “So finally, Luka says ‘Okay,’ and Luka went on a 26-6 run by himself.”
“You can ask anybody, I’m not exaggerating. He showed everything, the 3s, the post-ups, the floaters, everything by himself.” We can hear Williams now, telling Doncic he’s going to make them both.
