Legendary broadcaster and voice of the Boston Celtics Mike Gorman is retiring at the end of the 2023-24 NBA season after four decades of calling games in the Hub and beyond. In that time he built an immense relationship with Celtics fans with his sharp wit, winning laugh, and infectious passion for the game.
During his career, Gorman also made connections with his peers and colleagues on press row. That same charm fans feel through their television set is just as warm in the back halls of the Garden, and has served as the foundation for countless friendships behind the scenes. With Gorman heading into his final offseason, Celtics Wire spoke with a number of people who have gotten to know him best over the years. Over the next few days, we’ll be sharing some of their stories, memories, and best wishes.
In the first edition of the series, we talk with broadcaster Sean Grande. For decades, Grande has provided play-by-play coverage of the Celtics on radio. He himself has become an institution in Boston sports, and only Gorman and Johnny Most have called more Celtics games than Grande. As Grande explained, however, his relationship with Gorman has grown to be so much bigger than basketball.
