Whenever an NBA player is injured badly enough that they need to miss an entire season, it is an especially tough thing to come back from. With momentum and a precious year of training and development lost for the most part, it can be enough to take the wind out of the sails of any young player.
Sometimes, enough to derail their career at the NBA level entirely. But this was not the case with former Boston Celtics two way wing Jay Scrubb, who tore his ACL ahead of last season, and is finally poised to make a return. He considers the support that Boston showed him while he was rehabbing his ACL a major part of how he’s gotten back on his feet despite not being under contract with the Celtics.
“Even though I wasn’t on the deal, I still felt like I was a part of the team, because I was there and the relationships I built and just being there, you still feel like you’re part of the organization,” said Scrubb with a recent interview by Boston Sports Journal’s Bobby Manning.

:That gave me the motivation to want to get back and be there with those guys,” he added. ” … The mental part, being away from the game for the first time just crushed me, I didn’t really know how to feel, but having the support, it really takes over. “
“That really brought me back … ,” said Scrubb. “It’s tough physically, but the harder you work, the more you build yourself up to better yourself.”
