Jaylen Brown appears unhappy that he wasn’t selected as Kawhi Leonard’s replacement for the Olympics–even though his Boston Celtics teammate Derrick White was.
Earlier today, USA Basketball announced that Leonard would not be making the trip to Paris later this month as he continues to rehab in preparation for the 2024-25 NBA season.
A short time later, White was announced as taking Leonard’s spot on the 12-man American roster. Brown had been part of USA Basketball’s 28-player pool for the Olympics, but ultimately wasn’t chosen for a spot on the team.
He didn’t make it as an alternate either, and his cryptic tweet featuring three magnifying glass emojis indicates Brown is confused about why he wasn’t chosen.

Assuming that’s what Brown is alluding to here–and it seems unlikely it would be anything else–it’s a little lame he chose to voice his opinion like this.
Without question, Brown, a three-time All-Star and the 2024 NBA Finals MVP, is a better all-around player than White. However, there’s no sense in appearing salty when one of your teammates earned an honor like this one.
To quote the famous Isiah Thomas meme from “The Last Dance,” Brown met the criteria to be selected for the Olympic team, but he wasn’t.
There’s nothing wrong with that either, and perhaps the Celtics will benefit from him having some additional time off this summer as well.
