Jayson Tatum and the Boston Celtics were able to take care of business in the Eastern Conference Finals against a depleted Pacers team. But the Celtics star knows there’s more to accomplish before they can call this season a success.
According to teammate Jaylen Brown, after Boston’s Game 4 sweep Tatum approached him with a simple message: “Four more,” Tatum said.
Brown took home ECF MVP honors for his excellent two-way performance throughout the series.
The 27-year-old averaged 29.8 points on nearly 52% shooting from the field while also adding five rebounds, three assists and two steals per game. Not to mention his clutch game-tying three in Game 1 to force overtime and save the Celtics’ chances.
“That was special,” Tatum said of Brown winning the Larry Bird Trophy. “Big time to be rewarded for how you play. That’s a special accomplishment for him and for everybody.”
Brown, himself, was surprised that he received the award. “I wasn’t expecting it at all,” the three-time All-Star admitted. “I don’t ever win [expletive]. I was just happy we won.”
“At this point, I’m at that phase in my life where I just embrace all forms of negativity or whatever the case is. Some stuff I don’t understand. It ain’t meant for me to understand it. But I just know who I am and what I stand for.”
Boston now awaits their NBA Finals opponent which could be the Dallas Mavericks if they’re able to take care of business tonight.
