The Boston Celtics probably shouldn’t have needed heroics from Jayson Tatum to beat the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday night, but they’ll take the win anyway. With less than a second left in a tie game, Tatum hit a contested, game-winning fadeaway jump shot to give the Celtics a dramatic 118-116 win on the road. Tatum finished the game with 27 points on 10-of-21 shooting with 10 assists and six rebounds.

I think double-teaming Jayson Tatum is a bad strategy, but that’s just me pic.x.com/GRFZftjpWb – 8:31 PM

More on this storyline
“We all feel that we can count on him every night,” Porziņģis said. “He has a chip on his shoulder, for sure, to have an even better year this year and even better playoff run than he had last year. He’s always looking to improve. And that’s what we love about him.” -via athlonsports.com / January 31, 2025
Instead of sleeping in during a beautiful morning in Los Angeles, Tatum completed an hourlong on-court workout. He didn’t mirror the preparation intensity needed for a playoff game. Nor should he. Yet, Tatum still obsessed over his footwork, post-up moves and finishes as if those small details could make a big difference in the Celtics’ quest to defend their NBA title. “I just try to get better every year,” Tatum said. “There’s a lot of things I want to accomplish. There’s a lot of things I want to do. And there’s so much more to get better at. So I’m just approaching it with that mindset.” -via athlonsports.com / January 31, 2025
“He stays hungry on getting better,” Boston coach Joe Mazzulla said of Tatum. “He listens to it. He believes it, but he doesn’t let it distract him from what’s the most important thing. That’s continuing to get better. That’s winning championships. And that’s being a great teammate.” -via athlonsports.com / January 31, 2025
