Kristaps Porzingis addressed the latest injury that leaves the Boston Celtics star questionable for Wednesday’s Game 3 against the Dallas Mavericks.
Boston revealed Tuesday that Porzingis suffered a “torn medial retinaculum allowing dislocation of the posterior tibialis tendon in his left leg.” He’s day-to-day ahead of the upcoming NBA Finals clash at Dallas.
ESPN’s Malika Andrews noted that he was wearing a sleeve on his left ankle but not limping when he met with reporters on Tuesday. Porzingis said he’ll make every effort to play on Wednesday night.
“It’s gonna be day-to-day, and I’ll see how am I tomorrow,” Porzingis said, via Celtics on NBC Sports Boston. “Obviously I’m gonna do everything I can to be out there tomorrow. We’ll see.”
Porzingis added that he’s “optimistic” about his chances to play, and he’d only sit if Boston’s medical staff doesn’t let him compete.
The big man doesn’t think this injury is related to a calf strain that caused him to miss more than five weeks of playoff action. He didn’t feel any symptoms before suffering the injury during Sunday’s Game 2 victory.
“To be honest, I don’t know. It was kind of like a random situation,” Porzingis said. “It wasn’t like I was limping or something like this before that. I was good, and then this happened.”
While it’s difficult to experience another setback so soon after returning, Porzingis remained in good spirits despite his uncertain Game 3 status.
“It’s just a tough moment right now, but I feel pretty good,” he said. “Mind is good. We’ll see tomorrow.”
