The Boston Celtics are back in the NBA Finals with a shot at winning an 18th title and raising a championship banner for the first time since 2008. Winning it all means squaring off with a familiar foe.
Kyrie Irving is in his second season with the Dallas Mavericks, and one of the club’s top offensive weapon. He will be critical to Dallas’ scoring attack, but much of the commentary leading up to the series has been how Irving will contend not with Boston’s defenders but with the fans in the rafters. Irving spent two seasons with the Celtics before joining the Brooklyn Nets in free agency, and his relationship with Boston has been tumultuous ever since. With the series set to tip Thursday at TD Garden, Irving was asked about how he feels about the city and his old teammates.
Irving acknowledged how much history he has with the city of Boston, but that he is ready to focus on basketball.
