The Boston Celtics are just three wins away from winning the 2024 NBA finals and punctuating what has been a historic season. Despite the pressure, members of the Celtics orbit spent Friday afternoon in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston working with the community.
The event in question was a partnership with the NBA and the Boys & Girls Club of Boston, a renovation at the Berkshire Partners Blue Hill Club location. Dozens of neighborhood kids and teens from Dorchester and Mattapan listened patiently as commissioner Adam Silver, Celtics associate governor Steve Pagliuca, and others spoke about the importance of places like a neighborhood Boys & Girls Club. That patience was rewarded, however, because after the dedication ceremony Al Horford, Derrick White, Jordan Walsh, and Luke Kornet led basketball drills and games, posed for photos, and helped celebrate the afternoon with the club members.
Celtics Wire spoke with Kornet afterward about the experience of doing a community event smack in the middle of the NBA finals and how he’s grown into his role as a fan favorite in Boston.
