The Boston Celtics are up 2-0 in the 2024 NBA Finals, and after dominating the regular season and playoffs thus far, the club is honing in on a championship banner. But as the series shifts west, the Celtics aren’t the only ones in the Hub with something on the line.
Before the finals began, Boston mayor Michelle Wu and Dallas mayor Eric Johnson struck a friendly wager to celebrate their cities’ basketball teams and highlight their unique culinary histories. The details of the bet are as follows: If the Celtics win, Mayor Wu and her office receive some Texas barbecue. But if the Mavericks end up on top, Wu will owe Johnson a bounty of delectables courtesy of Legal Sea Foods. And of course, alongside their delicious bragging rights, the winner also gets to host the eventual championship parade. With Boston firmly in the driver’s seat for the series, Wu is in prime position to take home the prize.
