The Boston Celtics lost in overtime Thursday, falling 123-122 to the Atlanta Hawks, and picking up loss number two in as many road games this week in Atlanta. During last night’s action, Boston had the a final shot in regulation with 6.7 seconds remaining. Head coach Joe Mazzulla called on All-NBA forward Jayson Tatum to take what would have been a game-winning basket.
It was an isolation set that saw Tatum pull up for an off-balance 3-pointer. The shot was no good, and the Celtics went on to lose in the overtime period. Tatum was 2-for-6 from deep to that point in the game, but he couldn’t get Boston over the hump. Following the game, Tatum and Mazzulla both defended the shot, saying it was the right choice for the moment.
Mazzulla said he wanted Tatum to be the one to make the final play in explaining his approach heading into the last possession.
