The Boston Celtics, the NBA, and the Boys and Girls Club of Boston unveiled a newly renovated facility at the Berkshire Partners Blue Hill Club location in Dorchester Friday afternoon. The project included new flooring and new backboards, as well as resources and other updates to the facilities Teen Education Center.
The league has held events like during the NBA finals through its NBA Cares initiative for many years. Commissioner Adam Silver spoke to a crowd of community members, as did Boston’s associate governor Steve Pagliuca and a number of members of Celtics including Al Horford, Derrick White, Luke Kornet, and Jordan Walsh. Before the players ran drills with the dozens of children in attendance, Silver, Pagliuca, and others spoke about the importance of institutions like the Boys & Girls Club and what they mean to the neighborhoods and families they serve.
Silver began his remarks by honoring the late Bill Walton, who was an avid supporter of the Boys & Girls Club himself.
