The Boston Celtics have a bad habit of playing down to opponents dealing with key players being out injured, and in the first half against the Philadelphia 76ers at TD Garden on Tuesday, that pattern became evident again. But in the second half, the Celtics came out swinging with the clamps on, and quickly built a lead that withstood a push from Philly in the game’s fourth quarter.
Despite making just 5 3-pointers (yes, really!) on a night they were held to just 22.7% from deep, Boston won 117-99. They did it by leaning into their midrange and near-basket attack, shooting 52.7% from the floor overall. Winning the rebounding battle by 28 — doubling up the Sixers — certainly did not hurt.
