Many NBA teams can claim to being the greatest of all time, but only a handful are taken seriously in such a claim by most, and the 1985-86 Boston Celtics are among the teams with the strongest claims to that title.
With three Hall-of-Famers, small forward Larry Bird, power forward Kevin McHale and center Robert Parish, manning the frontcourt as the original Big Three in their primes with a supporting cast like few title teams had since, it’s no wonder this team’s so highly regarded. It won 67 games on the way to its 16th title, demolishing everything in their path.
If you want the fine-grained detail on why this team has a case as the greatest ever, watch the video embedded below, produced by Clayton Crowley in his “Making the Case” series focused on the 1986 Celtics.
It’s a well-thought-out argument that looks at more than names and win totals, give it a watch and see if you aren’t convinced.
