Al Horford is entering his age-38 season with the Boston Celtics. The veteran big man will also be in the final year of his current contract. However, he is still expected to have a significant role within the Celtics rotation, both on the court and within the locker room. Horford is unquestionably one of the biggest leaders within Joe Mazzulla’s rotation.
However, with his career winding down, a championship ring finally in his possession and an uncertain future ahead, it’s fair to question what type of role Horford will have as Boston looks to defend its title. Furthermore, Horford will likely have to play more than the coaching staff would like due to Kristaps Porzingis’ inevitable absence at the start of the season.
In a recent episode of the “Bob Ryan and Jeff Goodman Podcast,” Ryan discusses Horford’s importance to the Celtics and the potential role he could assume throughout the season. He did note how the on-court role could fluctuate throughout the year, especially once Porzingis is back in the rotation.
