Wyc Grousbeck said that the sale of his controlling stake in the Boston Celtics was generating a lot of interest on Thursday.
“It’s underway. There’s a lot of interest,” said Grousbeck following the Celtics’ title-winning ceremony at the White House.
Grousbeck added that he expects to remain in charge of the team for three more years.
“I would say that the plan is that I will stay [in charge] for three more years. That’s what’s laid out. We’ll go from there,” said Grousbeck.
The Celtics ownership group previously announced that it expects to sell a majority of its stake by early 2025, with the balance fully closing in 2028.
Grousbeck then refocused the attention on competing for another championship this current season.
“I’d just rather talk about this team that we have in front of us, with us right now, that has the capacity to contend again. I think we’re contenders this year, and we can be contenders in the future, and that’s what I’m most excited about,” added Grousbeck.
