The Boston Red Sox have decided to give their crosstown NBA allies (and fans who might want to watch both games) some accommodations ahead of Game 4 of the NBA Finals this Friday.
On Wednesday, the Red Sox released a statement announcing that their Friday game against the New York Yankees will be moved from 7:10 pm ET to 6:30 pm ET. Games will open to Fenway Park at 5 pm ET. Per the statement, the move was done as a courtesy to fans ahead of the 8:30 pm ET start time of Game 4 of the NBA Finals between the Boston Celtics and the Dallas Mavericks.
“The change was made as a courtesy to fans interested in watching the Celtics take on the Dallas Mavericks in Game 4 of the NBA Finals, scheduled to start at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, June 14 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas,” the Red Sox said, via the New York Post.
The Red Sox have made similar actions before though not super recently. Back in 2019, the Red Sox moved a 7:10 pm game to 4:05 pm for the Boston Bruins’ Game 7 against the St. Louis Blues in the 2019 Stanley Cup Final. The Bruins would lose that game.
Given how short many games have gotten since the introduction of the pitch clock, that should give a good number of fans plenty of time to find their favorite spot to sit and watch Game 4 (assuming the Red Sox-Yankees game doesn’t go to extra innings).
Will Friday see both Boston sports teams win their games?
