Another year, another BC Interruption Coach of the Year award for Acacia Walker-Weinstein! Walker-Weinstein was the unanimous winner this year after leading Boston College to victory in the ACC Championship and the NCAA Championship.
In her 14th season at Boston College, Walker-Weinstein led BC to a 20-3 overall record. Her Eagles went on to defeat #1 seed Syracuse 15-8 in the ACC Championship before heading to the NCAA Tournament.
In her seventh straight NCAA Championship Game appearance, Walker-Weinstein found her team down 6-0 to #1 Northwestern after the first period of play. The 6-0 score was the largest deficit BC had encountered this season, and had a lot of people counting the Eagles out. But Walker-Weinstein proved to everyone why her teams can never be counted out and why she should win every coaching award this year. The Eagles came out fighting in the second period, outscoring the Wildcats 6-2, and in the second half the Eagles took their first lead of the game and held onto victory.
BC’s record this season would have been enough on its own to earn Walker-Weinstein the Coach of the Year honor, but her ability to coach her team to victory despite a 6 goal deficit to the #1 team in the nation in the most high pressure game of the year really secured her spot as the undeniable GOAT.
