Emma LoPinto is the epitome of how Boston College can use the transfer portal to its advantage. Despite not originally being recruited by the Eagles, she came to the Heights from Florida last fall and immediately fit in with the program. And now, after an incredible season, she’s BCI’s female fan favorite of 2023-24!
LoPinto was a young star for the Florida program for two seasons before she ended up transferring to Boston College. She led a great Gators offense by tallying up 125 goals and 62 assists for 187 points during her time there, which included multiple spots on the national leaderboards for points and goals. So when Acacia Walker-Weinstein came calling to add LoPinto to a national title contender, she was up for the challenge.
LoPinto was a scoring machine for Boston College in 2024 and an instrumental part of a top offense that didn’t feature a truly elite goal-scorer, but instead attacked as a multi-headed beast. She was third in goals and second in assists for the team and attacked with a tenacity that’s immediately noticeable when you watch a game. It was that kind of tenacity and skill that helped boost the Eagles to the 4th-best offense in the nation.
LoPinto was able to break out in several games for huge scoring numbers, which included an absolutely spectacular 7-goal performance against rival UNC. Games between the Eagles and Tarheels are always hard-fought battles, and LoPinto slotted into the rivalry with ease as she put up a season high in scoring.
LoPinto was also a key player that led Boston College to success in the Final Four. She scored BC’s first two goals against Syracuse to set the tone for the weekend, and then had the first goal for BC in the championship game that helped lead the Eagles back from a 6-0 deficit, and then another one later in the game that helped BC continue the comeback. In the end, LoPinto was an immediate offensive sparkplug that joined BC this season and helped lead them to their second national title.
Also nominated for this award were two other key pieces to the championship offense: Kayla Martello and Andrea Reynolds. They were all big reasons for the team’s success in 2024, and we’re looking forward to seeing them out there to defend the title in 2025.
