At long last, we’ve reached the end of the 2023-24 BC Interruption awards with our selection for female player of the year. There are a lot of worthy candidates who could’ve been selected for this award from just the women’s lacrosse team alone, like our other nominees Rachel Clark and Shea Dolce, but our writers landed on offensive powerhouse and longtime Eagle Kayla Martello.
Martello has been a sharpshooter for her entire career at Boston College, and the 2024 season was no different. She tallied the second-most goals on the team and the fourth-most total points, performing as a key contributor to the nation’s fourth-best offense overall.
But what really stood out for us was her performance in the 2024 national championship game. Martello put the ball in the net 5 times against Northwestern in the 2024 title game, a contest that the Eagles won by only one goal. She had a huge second quarter by scoring four times in very short succession, a performance that basically single-handedly lifted Boston College up from their early 6-0 deficit. The Eagles emerged with their second national title in four years in large thanks to her tenacity and refusal to quit. Thank you, Kayla, for an amazing career on the Heights!
